Competent means: Loads a fresh probe, holds the correct working distance and alignment, obtains a green-band reading on both eyes, and escalates an acute pressure immediately.

Hands-on device handling: loading a probe without contaminating it, finding the working distance by eye, and what the six shots and the quality band actually look like on the display.

  1. 0:00Opening a sealed probe base and loading it without touching the probe. Slow and close — this is the infection-control shot.
  2. 0:25Seating the patient, and the pre-test line delivered properly: light tap, no drop, no puff.
  3. 0:45Profile shot of the working distance with the forehead support resting on the brow. A ruler or scale marker in frame if possible — 4 to 8 mm is hard to picture.
  4. 1:05Straight-on shot showing the probe perpendicular to the central cornea, and then deliberately tilted, so the difference is visible.
  5. 1:25Six measurements fired at normal cadence, with the device display readable throughout.
  6. 1:55The display at the end: the averaged reading and the quality band. Film a green run and, if it can be staged safely, a red one.
  7. 2:35Ejecting and disposing of the probe, then charting instrument, time and both eyes.
